a word from the founder
NAPA-BALATON
Dear Future Traveler!
My name is Endre Nagy, and as the founder of the NAPA–BALATON regional partnership initiative, I would like to personally invite you on a journey that brings together two of the world’s most inspiring wine regions—Napa Valley and Hungary’s Lake Balaton Wine Country;
I was born in Hungary and spent more than three decades living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I developed a deep appreciation for Napa Valley’s vibrant wine culture, collaborative spirit, and ability to create unforgettable experiences rooted in place and tradition.
Today, my home is Lake Balaton, Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake, a region rich in history, natural beauty, and exceptional winemaking heritage, which inspired me to create the NAPA–BALATON initiative as a bridge between these two remarkable regions.
Together with a distinguished network of partners representing some of the Balaton region’s most iconic landmarks, we are dedicated to welcoming American travelers visiting Budapest by offering curated Danube River cruise extensions and immersive experiences in the Lake Balaton Wine Country, where you will discover outstanding wines, breathtaking landscapes, warm hospitality, and traditions preserved for generations, bringing a piece of Napa’s inspiration full circle back to the place where my story began.
